Hapkido is a Korean martial art that originated from Japan. Hapkido bears a striking similarity to Aikido and it comes as no surprise to learn that the founder of Hapkido is rumored to have studied DaitoRyu Aikijujitsu – the forerunner of modern Aikido. In general, Hapkido techniques not only draw from the Aikijujitsu but also other Korean arts to add striking and kicking (usually from Tae Kwon Do) and traditional Korean weapons like fan and cane.
I have been fortunate to practice with a few Hapkido stylists over the years. Its a slightly different view on Aikido and informs nicely. I especially enjoyed the cane work.
